The Overland Park Church of Christ strives to be a church that is Christ-centered, people-focused, and Bible-based.
Our mission is helping people journey with God through believing, belonging and blessing.
Our fundamental understanding of who God is and what He expects from us comes from the Bible. We believe that the Bible is much more than an instruction book. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and was designed to develop our relationship with God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is the Journey.
By calling ourselves Christians, we center our lives on Jesus the Christ. We believe that He is the incarnate Son of God who gave His life to rebuild our relationship with the Father. He is the unique human and divine bridge who gives us a new way of life.
We help others believe by teaching the Bible on Sunday morning (in worship and Bible classes) and by sharing what the Bible says in various other venues throughout the week. If someone is seeking to know God better, we do what we can to lead that person to a closer walk through Jesus Christ.
As you can probably tell, people and their spiritual needs are very important to us. We believe that everyone who visits us has been led by God to be present. Part of the vision of the Overland Park Church of Christ is to see members of this church fully equipped and developed as followers of Christ.
To help connect people to our church, we focus especially on Life Groups and LINKS. Life Groups are small groups meeting in homes throughout the Kansas City metro area. Life Groups are open to anyone who wants to develop real relationships with other Christians on the same journey.
LINKS is an acronym for “Leading, Involving, and Networking the Kingdom.” Leadership development takes place in our Links. People find areas of service and ways to connect through our LINKS as well. We have Links for children, teens, young singles, young couples, young families, older singles, parents of teens, empty nesters and seniors. At OP, our Bible class structure has developed around our LINKS. They provide a wonderful avenue for connecting with people who are in the same life situation and have a lot in common.
We believe strongly that God blesses us to bless others. He has blessed all of us with special gifts. However, our gifts are not for ourselves, but for our use to benefit the lives of other people. We use what we call a Grace Gifts inventory to help people discover how they have been gifted. We have more than sixty “official” ministries at OP (“Unofficially” people of this church are involved in a lot of ministry that flows out of their daily lives). All of them are concerned with helping the journey of others – whether it means teaching the children or helping the homeless.
