Minister of Adult Discipleship
Doing ministry, full time, his entire adult life has given Dan an incredible opportunity to see so many facets of the beautiful, shining jewel that is God's church. He began kingdom work in 1972 with his wife of one year, Vickie, when they moved to Ecuador as missionary apprentices. They ended up spending the next eleven years involved in this small South American country and then, with their three, Ecuadorian-born children, moved to Los Angeles, California.
After establishing a viable, Spanish-speaking congregation in downtown L.A., both Dan and Vickie transitioned to work full-time with the Culver-Palms Church of Christ in West Los Angeles. The Knights spent a total of ten very fruitful years in Southern California, and in 1993 they moved to Overland Park, KS.
Their oldest son, Dennis, is married to Rebecca, and they have four children. Their next son, Daniel, and his wife, Angela, have been blessed with three kids. Gini, their third child, is still single, and leads a happy and productive life. All of Dan's children and grandchildren live in the Overland Park/Olathe area. This makes Vickie very happy!
While at OPCC, Dan has served in a variety of capacities, from interim preaching minister for fourteen months to unofficial audio/visual guy for the adult Bible classes. Currently, Dan is the Minister of Adult Discipleship. His favorite activity is teaching, and in the last two decades he has taught almost every single Sunday that he has been in town.

My name is Taylor Brooks Penrod, and I grew up at the Overland Park Church of Christ. In fact, I am the third generation of my family to be a member here.
After high school, I attended David Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, and I majored in Elementary Education. While at Lipscomb, I went on a mission trip to an Indian reservation in South Dakota. It was there that I met the man whom God had destined to become my husband. We discovered that we both lived in Nashville, and started dating after that mission trip. God is so full of surprises!! We were married on May 24, 2014.
I interned in ministry at the OP Church for several summers, and about a year ago a door opened for me to become a Youth Minister here. Doing this is an answer to prayers that my heart was feeling but that I had not realized yet. This is my dream job!!
My mission in ministry is to help teens take a knowledge of Jesus Christ and grow that into a relationship with Him. When that happens it is the highest joy of ministry for me.
My favorites things about this church are many. I love the family dynamics that play out at this place. We are the family of God. I love how this church shows hospitality to all people, regardless of their background. Also, the OP Church is great at meeting peoples’ needs whatever they are.
Of Scripture favorites, I have always loved Hebrews 4:12. “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” I also love the last part of Nehemiah 8:10, “This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”
My favorite (currently) is Proverbs 27:19.
As a face is reflected in water,
so the heart reflects the real person.
It is a powerful reminder of the importance of being one hundred percent genuine in all things.
Some of Taylor's Favorites:
Favorite Bible book: Galatians and Ephesians
